• Crane’s Lyon site was recently honored with a visit from some prestigious visitors from the ‘Direction générale de l’aviation civile’ (DGAC).
• The DGAC is the French Civil Aviation Authority, equivalent to the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States.
• Local airport authorities also joined the visitors to take a tour of the facility.
• DGAC guests included M. Paul Schwach, Deputy Director General – Head of Department of Air Transport, was joined by M. Jacques Le Guillou – Deputy Assistant, M. Michel Hupays – Director of the Southern Region,  M. Thierry Lefebvre – Principal Private Secretary to the Minister of Transport and M. Simon Besse, Manager – Southern Region.
• Also in attendance were M. Lionel Bessard, All Lyon Airports General Manager, M. Didier Pianelli, Bron Airport General Manager and M. Frederic Antras, Aerospace Cluster Manager.
• M. Paul Schwach has been decorated with the award of ‘Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur’ (Knight of the Legion of Honor) and receiving a visit from him and the other esteemed guests was a great honor for the employees at the Lyon site.

• Aérazur, Zodiac Aerospace has awarded a Long Term Contract to Crane Aerospace & Electronics for the design, development and manufacture of Water Immersion Sensors.
• Crane’s sensors will support the Emergency Flotation System for the Bell 525 ‘Relentless’ helicopter.
• The sensors will be designed and manufactured at Crane’s Lyon, France site.
• Aérazur was selected for the complete Emergency Evacuation System, including Emergency Flotation, Life Raft and Water Immersion Sensors (WIS).
• The introduction of the Bell 525 creates a ‘Super Medium’ class of helicopters.
• It is the first commercial helicopter to incorporate fly-by-wire flight controls.
• Crane’s Lyon site designs and manufactures sensing and fuel level systems.

• Crane congratulates the Work Opportunities organization on 50 years of service.
• Work Opportunities was established in 1963 in the basement of a Shaky’s Pizza Parlor.
• Starting with seven clients and two staff members, the organization has grown to serve almost 500 clients with 70 staff members throughout Snohomish and Whatcom counties.
• Monday, April 22, the organization had a 50th anniversary celebration in the Reception Room at the Holy Rosary Pastoral Center.
• The enclave at Crane’s ELDEC site in Lynnwood, Washington, was established in 1989 and now consists of 15 Work Opportunities clients with one Work Opportunities staff member.
• They support manufacturing areas by counting and distributing components to the assembly lines, creating kits for certain product lines, delivering paper to the copy machines, sorting and distributing mail and other jobs that come up throughout the course of the day.

• Under the terms of the agreement, ST Aerospace will serve as an authorized repair facility in Singapore for a variety of Crane products for use on commercial aircraft.
• These include fuel pumps, proximity sensors, transformer rectifiers, battery chargers, brake control systems, wheel speed transducers and control valves.

• Botanical researchers at the NASA Kennedy Space Center, Fla., needed dc-dc converter power supplies and electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters for a prototype celestial plant garden on the International Space Station. They found their power electronics solution from Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Redmond, Wash.
• NASA officials announced their intention last week to award Crane a sole-source space electronics contract for Interpoint-brand dual- and single-output dc-dc converters, as well as EMI filters, for the Plant Habitat prototype unit, which is to go aboard the space station.
• The Plant Habitat is configured as a space station payload measuring about 21 inches high, 36 inches wide, and 24 inches deep that is expected to use about 735 Watts of power, NASA officials say. The Plant Habitat will help NASA researchers plan for long-duration manned space missions beyond low-Earth orbit.
• NASA plans to buy from Crane 20 dual-output Interpoint MOR2815DW DC-DC converters, six single-output Interpoint MOR2812SW DC-DC Converters and nine Interpoint FMCE1528W EMI filters for the Plant Habitat prototype.
• Engineering work such as electrical schematics and circuit board drawings have been completed based on the Interpoint products to ensure interoperability, NASA officials say, pointing out that switching to another product would require the costly and time-consuming rework of all the drawings and schematics.
• Within the Plant Habitat there is a tray called a science carrier that will hold various types of plants. The science carrier is a removable and reconfigurable tray that will provide the primary structural support and final water delivery to the root-zone for in-orbit plant growth experimentation.
• The Plant Habitat will launch to the space station on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft in December 2015, NASA officials say.
